Comic Art!
I have just completed this illustration:

Which I will be offering for a limited time only through my CafePress store. This your chance to help a starving webcartoonist… ok so maybe not starving but at least hungry.
Ok, now it’s time for a long complicated “Artist’s Statement” on the piece…
This piece is very simply about the different faces we wear throughout our lifetimes. As we walk down the path that is our life we chose to adopt a certain mask to show the world, for every path there is a different mask. And for some who walk more than one path they wear several interchangeable masks.
Ok so it wasn’t so long, but it was concise. Anyway go buy it now!!!

Why do you feel the need to express yourself in this way? Why open yourself to so many and many of them, I venture to say, are strangers?

That is a very good question Ernie. And a hard one to answer, I suppose I choose to express myself this way simply because it feels right and comfortable to do so. I have been keeping a journal style comic for about 10 years now, previously it was all in placed in a rather large sketch book. Thinking back on it now even comics like “Faneuil Road” which I drew back around 1994 was semi-autobiographical though much more fictionalized.
And as for opening oneself up to strangers, how else does one get to know people, if you are unwilling to share parts of yourself with strangers?

It’s therapeutic in a way I suppose….I do agree, opening one’s self to strangers can sometimes be rewarding. I met my best friend in just this way. It’s too long a story to go into but we’ve been friends for over 35 years now. Infact I am paying him and his wife a visit on the 10th of July. They live in Frankfurt, Germany.
